Learn About James Johnson, CMHC-I:
James works with individuals and couples seeking greater clarity, emotional balance, and freedom from patterns that feel limiting or overwhelming. With seven years of experience in the mental health field, he supports clients navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, unwanted sexual behaviors, performance anxiety, body image concerns, and relational stress. His approach is warm, collaborative, and focused on helping clients understand why they respond the way they do so meaningful change can follow.
James specializes in working with individuals facing addictions and compulsive behaviors, as well as high performers and athletes dealing with pressure, identity, and achievement-driven stress. As a former Division I collegiate basketball player, James brings both clinical training and lived experience to his work with performance anxiety, body shame, and identity struggles.
His therapeutic approach integrates Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, and trauma- and shame-informed care. Attachment theory and polyvagal theory also inform his work, helping clients better understand their nervous system responses and develop a more compassionate relationship with themselves.
He also works with couples to strengthen communication and emotional safety, and support individuals processing religious or church-related wounds with sensitivity and respect
